Biography

William Omar Landrón Rivera, known professionally as Don Omar, is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor, born on February 10, 1978, in Santurce, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is widely recognized as the "King of Reggaeton" for his significant role in popularizing the genre globally. From a young age, he was interested in music, drawing inspiration from artists like Vico C. Before his music career took off, he was an active member of a Protestant church where he occasionally preached.

Rise to Stardom

Don Omar's career began to ascend after he was supported by Héctor Delgado of the duo Héctor & Tito, who helped him produce his first solo album. His debut album, "The Last Don," released in 2003, was a landmark for the reggaeton movement and achieved platinum status. This album included hit singles like "Dale Don Dale" and "Dile." The success of his debut earned him the Billboard Latin Music Awards for Latin Pop Album of the Year and New Artist & Latin Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year in 2003.

King of Kings and Global Recognition

His second studio album, "King of Kings" (2006), broke records by becoming the highest-charting reggaeton album in the US top 10 charts at the time. The album's success was so significant that Billboard recognized it as the most successful Latin American album of the decade. A major international hit, "Danza Kuduro," a collaboration with Lucenzo released in 2010, became a global phenomenon and was featured in the movie "Fast & Furious 5." Throughout his career, Don Omar has sold around 15 million records, making him one of the best-selling Latin music artists.

Acting Career

In addition to his music career, Don Omar has also ventured into acting. He is known for his role as Rico Santos in the "Fast & Furious" film franchise, appearing in several installments including "Fast & Furious" (2009), "Fast Five" (2011), "The Fate of the Furious" (2017), and "F9" (2021).
