Biography

BTS, also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a seven-member South Korean boy band that has become a global music phenomenon. The group was formed by Big Hit Entertainment in 2010 and officially debuted on June 13, 2013, with their single album "2 Cool 4 Skool". The members are RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, who are all involved in co-writing and co-producing much of the group's music.

Early Years and Musical Style

Initially a hip-hop group, BTS's musical style has evolved to encompass a wide range of genres. Their early work, including the "School Trilogy" albums, focused on themes of the struggles and anxieties of school-age youth. Their name, which stands for "Bangtan Sonyeondan" or "Bulletproof Boy Scouts," reflects their desire to block out stereotypes and criticism. Later, the name was also revealed to stand for "Beyond the Scene."

Rise to Prominence

The group's popularity began to rise significantly with "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" album series, starting in 2015, which explored the beauty and anxieties of youth. The 2016 album "Wings" was their first to sell one million copies in South Korea. By 2017, BTS had crossed over into the international market, leading the Korean Wave into the United States. They became the first Korean group to receive a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their single "Mic Drop".

Global Stardom and Achievements

BTS achieved massive global success, becoming the first Korean act to top the U.S. Billboard 200 with their album "Love Yourself: Tear" in 2018. They have had multiple number-one albums on the Billboard 200 and numerous hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including the Grammy-nominated "Dynamite," their first all-English track. The group has sold out stadium tours worldwide, including at Wembley Stadium and the Rose Bowl. They have received countless awards, including multiple Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards, and have been named Time magazine's "Entertainer of the Year" in 2020.

Musical Themes and Impact

Throughout their career, BTS's lyrics have addressed themes of mental health, self-love, social commentary, and individualism. This has resonated deeply with their dedicated fanbase, known as ARMY.
