Biography
Peter Gene Hernandez, known professionally as Bruno Mars, was born on October 8, 1985, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Coming from a musical family, he was exposed to a diverse mix of genres including reggae, rock, hip hop, and R&B from a young age. His father was a Latin percussionist and his mother was a singer. By the age of four, Mars was performing with his family's band, The Love Notes, and became known for his Elvis Presley impersonation. After graduating from high school, he moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue a music career.
Career Beginnings and Breakthrough
Initially, Mars focused on songwriting and producing, co-founding the production team The Smeezingtons. They wrote successful songs for artists like Flo Rida and CeeLo Green. His breakthrough as a solo artist came in 2010 with his feature on B.o.B's "Nothin' on You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire," both of which were major hits.
