Biography
Arcane was an Australian progressive metal band known for its atmospheric and emotionally charged music. The band was formed in Brisbane and consisted of Jim Grey on vocals, Michael Gagen on guitar, Matthew Martin on keyboards, Brendon Blanchard on bass, and Stephen Walsh on drums. Their sound, while often categorized as progressive metal, incorporated a wide range of influences, creating a dynamic and nuanced style.
Career and Albums
The band released their debut full-length album, 'Ashes', in 2007. This was followed by the critically acclaimed concept album 'Chronicles of the Waking Dream' in 2009, which cemented their reputation within the progressive music scene. The album's dense narrative and complex musicianship garnered significant attention. Arcane was known for their captivating live performances, often enhanced by visual backdrops.
In 2015, Arcane released their most ambitious project, a double album titled 'Known/Learned'. The project, supported by a crowdfunding campaign, was split into two distinct parts: 'Known', a heavier, more aggressive disc, and 'Learned', a softer, more atmospheric collection of songs. This release was their final studio album before the band ceased its activities.

Following the release of 'Chronicles of the Waking Dream', vocalist Jim Grey co-founded and joined the progressive metal band Caligula's Horse. This band went on to achieve significant international recognition, with a sound that sometimes draws comparisons to Arcane due to Grey's distinctive vocal style.
