Anonymous
Biography
There are several musical groups known as Anonymous. One was a punk rock and pop-punk band from Andorra la Vella, Andorra, formed in 2004. The members were Niki Francesca, Alejandro Martínez, Guillem Gallego, and Cristian Narvaez. They gained some success in Andorra and northern Spain, particularly Catalonia. In 2007, they represented Andorra in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Salvem el món". However, they did not advance to the finals, finishing in 12th place in the semi-final, which remains Andorra's best result in the contest to date. The band was active until 2007. After the group disbanded, lead singer Niki Francesca pursued a solo career under the name Nick Gain.
American Psychedelic Rock Band
Another band by the name of Anonymous was an American psychedelic and folk-rock group from Indianapolis, Indiana, active in the mid to late 1970s. The original lineup consisted of Ron Matelic (vocals, guitar), Marsha Rollings (vocals), Glenn Weaver (vocals, guitar, bass), and John Medvescek (drums). The band's roots were in the 1960s garage scene, with Matelic and Medvescek having previously played in Sir Winston and the Commons. In 1976, they recorded their album "Inside the Shadow," releasing only 300 copies, which has since become a collector's item. The band did not perform live under this name. After some lineup changes, the group evolved into a new band called J. Rider.
Japanese Visual Kei Band
A Japanese visual kei band named ANONYMOUS formed in December 2019. The lineup includes well-known musicians from the visual kei scene: vocalist Nimo, guitarist Taizo, bassist Ivy, and drummer Ookuma Kunio. The band's concept is "Raison d'être" (reason for being), as they explore the meaning of human existence through their music. They released an album titled "WHO?".
Other Musical Acts
The name Anonymous has been used by other musical projects as well. This includes a progressive jazz fusion group from Atlanta known as Anonymous Da Band, consisting of Langston Michael (sax), Xavier Jones (bass), Xavier Davis (keys), and Justice Michael (drums). There was also a Bay Area hip-hop group called The Anonymous, who released an album in 1998 that featured an early career appearance by Eminem. Additionally, the term "anonymous" is broadly used in music to refer to compositions where the creator is unknown, particularly in early classical and folk music.
