Biography
Anne-Marie Rose Nicholson, born on April 7, 1991, in East Tilbury, Essex, England, is a popular singer and songwriter. From a young age, she showed a passion for performing, starring in two West End productions: "Les Misérables" at the age of six and "Whistle Down the Wind" alongside Jessie J at twelve. Alongside her early stage career, Anne-Marie began practicing Shotokan karate at the age of nine, an art form in which she became a triple world champion. She credits karate with teaching her discipline and focus, which have been instrumental in her music career.
Career Beginnings
In 2013, Anne-Marie released a solo demo titled "Summer Girl," which caught the attention of Ed Sheeran. Before launching a full-fledged solo career, she gained experience by featuring on tracks by artists like Magnetic Man and Gorgon City. A significant turning point came when she joined the band Rudimental as a vocalist, touring with them for two years and featuring on four tracks of their 2015 album "We The Generation". This experience gave her the confidence to pursue a solo path. In 2015, she released her debut EP, "Karate".
Breakthrough and "Speak Your Mind"
Anne-Marie's solo career took off with the release of her single "Alarm" in 2016, which charted in the UK. However, her feature on Clean Bandit's massive international hit "Rockabye" alongside Sean Paul in the same year truly propelled her to fame, with the song reaching number one in the UK. She followed this success with top 10 hits "Ciao Adios" and "Friends," a collaboration with Marshmello. Her debut studio album, "Speak Your Mind," was released in 2018 and peaked at number three on the UK Albums Chart. The album included the hit single "2002," co-written with Ed Sheeran.
Subsequent Albums and Continued Success
Anne-Marie's second album, "Therapy," was released in 2021 and debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart. The album featured successful singles such as "Don't Play" with KSI and Digital Farm Animals, "Our Song" with Niall Horan, and "Kiss My (Uh-Oh)" featuring Little Mix. In 2023, she released her third album, "Unhealthy," which also reached number two in the UK. The lead single, "Psycho," a collaboration with Aitch, became a top 5 hit. She has been nominated for numerous awards throughout her career, including ten Brit Awards.
Other Ventures
From 2021 to 2023, Anne-Marie served as a coach on the television singing competition "The Voice UK". She also released a book in 2021 titled "You Deserve Better: An Imperfect Guide To Finding Your Own Happiness," which became a bestseller.
